ROUND-UP: Premier A and Colts rugby sides win at Memorial Park

Hautapu Sports have won their first match in the second round of competition in the Waikato Rugby Premiership, beating Otorohanga 29-12 at Memorial Park.

The Premier A team ran away to a 24-0 lead by half-time but had to resist a second-half fightback from Otorohanga.

In the Rowe Cup Premiership, Hautapu’s Development team were beaten 41-10 by Otorohanga who led 24-0 at the break.

Both Hautapu’s senior men’s teams get a break new weekend, with byes.

Hautapu Colts kept their lead in the competition with a bonus point win against Hinuera.

Hautapu led 14-5 at half-time and got home by the barest of margins, holding off Hinuera for a 27-26 victory.

Though Hautapu lost 43-5 at Suburbs in the Women’s Championship, the team confirmed their fourth position on the table at the end of the round robin.

The Hautapu side has qualified for the Championship semi-finals in their first year of competition, and await Waikato Rugby’s confirmation of the play-offs schedule.
