ROUND-UP: Premier rugby sides win while women stage late comeback

posted in: News, Rugby, Uncategorized

Hautapu Sports’ Premier rugby sides have both won convincingly at Memorial Park with wins against Melville.

The Premier A side won their eighth-round fixture 54-7 after leading 26-7 at the half-time break.

The result leaves Hautapu second on the ladder, behind Hamilton Marist, who are the only unbeaten side left in the competition.

Hautapu’s development side went into the interval with an 17-0 lead and then faced a second-half fightback from Melville before the home side came out on top with a 36-12 win.

United Matamata Sports defaulted their game against Hautapu’s Colts but that leaves Hautapu top of the competition ladder, a point ahead of Hamilton Marist.

Hautapu’s women’s team almost pulled off an unlikely win against Taupiri.

By half-time, Hautapu were trailing 26-0 in the Women’s Championship fixture.

However, a second-half resurgence got Hautapu within a try of their opponents, and ended up losing by a 31-26 margin.
