PREVIEW: The rugby season gets underway with four matches on the road

All four Hautapu Sports senior rugby teams start their 2024 Waikato Rugby campaigns on the road this weekend.

The Premier A and B teams head to Fred Jones Park to play Hamilton Old Boys, while the Colts travel to Matamata for their opening encounter.

The club’s history-making women’s team made their debut in the Waikato Women’s Championship, playing United Matamata Sports at Bedford Park.

A new rugby season beckons — and with it comes a newly-designed shirt to be worn by Hautapu Sports’ three senior men’s teams.

Apparel partners Dynasty Sport have produced a visually-stunning shirt, with multiple features to recognise and remember those who have gone before.

Captain and vice captains chosen for new season

Hautapu Sports have named their on-field leaders for their defence of rugby’s Breweries Shield with Jonty Short appointed captain of the Premier A team.

Backing up Short are the 2024 vice captains, Quintony Ngatai and Tahere Reha.

The newly-formed Hautapu Sports women’s rugby team will make their historic debut in the Waikato Rugby Women’s Championship at Matamata on Saturday April 6.
