UPDATED: Hautapu Sports women’s team to create history with game debut

The newly-formed Hautapu Sports women’s rugby team will make their historic debut in the Waikato Rugby Women’s Championship at Matamata on Saturday April 6.

The side will play United Sports Matamata in the first round of the competition.

Hautapu will play their first home match on Saturday April 13, 2024, in the second round of the competition, when they host Pirongia.

All four Hautapu Sports teams — the Premier, Development, Colts and Women’s Championship sides — are all expected to play at home on April 13.

Nine teams will contest the Women’s Championship.

Joining Hautapu will be Taupiri, Suburbs, Putaruru, Waitete, SURF, UMS, Pirongia and Hauraki North.

Semi-finals and play-off

Saturday June 15

The top eight teams will feature in play-offs:

Game 1: 1st v 4th
Game 2: 2nd v 3rd
Game 3: 5th v 6th
Game 4: 7th v 8th
9th placed team — season ends.


Saturday June 22

The grand final will be played between the winners of play-off games 1 and 2.

The losing teams from games 1 and 2 will play for third position.


The winner of the Championship will be automatically promoted to the Premiership competition for 2025.
