Our golf day fundraiser — how it will help refurbish our netball court

posted in: Netball, News

About 500 Cambridge netballers will benefit from November’s Property Brokers & Hautapu Sports’ Golf Day to be held at Cambridge Golf Course on Friday November 17, 2023.

Money raised from the golf day will be used to refurbish the damaged netball court at Hautapu Sports, enabling it to be used by future generations and for more sports.

Currently, the court is the club’s only training surface for almost 400 junior and 100 senior players, who use it to prepare for local Cambridge and Hamilton competitions.

While players also use the Cambridge Netball Centre courts in Leamington, the club court is used heavily on a daily basis.

The asphalt court was installed more than 30 years ago and has deteriorated, limiting its use.

While it has served the club well, it is no longer fit for purpose. Cracks are beginning to appear, and the surface is slippery when wet.

A new, rubberised surface will reduce the risk of injury and provide more opportunities to encourage sport and the wellbeing of our community’s young people.

The club also anticipates the resurfacing could attract other sporting codes and increase usage, especially during summer — an example is pickleball.

Hautapu Sports’ refurbishment project has two parts:

Stage 1 (short-term)

Demolition-site preparation, stormwater drainage, court surfacing, fencing, seating, landscaping.

Stage 2 (long-term)

Provide covered area — roof construction, replacement lighting.

… cracks …
… hole damage.

What we’re aiming for

To refurbish the netball court, contractors will repair damage to the existing asphalt surface and surround, installing a 5mm full cushion rubberised system.

Here’s an example of a court at Pukekohe that uses the same system:
