Hautapu Sports have taken the lead in the Waikato Premier Rugby’s premiership phase with a nailbiting 24-22 win at Otorohanga Sports.

The Premier A side are now the only unbeaten team in the premiership phase.

Hautapu built a 19-3 lead by half-time.

The home side came back strongly in the second half but Hautapu withstood the challenge and got home with two points to spare.

In the earlier game, Hautapu’s development squad led Otorohanga 17-13 at the break but the home side scraped home, winning 34-32.

Hautapu’s Colts had another big win, romping to a 50-5 victory against Southern United at Memorial Park.

The Colts led 31-0 by half-time.
