National lacrosse tournament to be held at Hautapu’s Memorial Park

posted in: News

Hundreds of secondary school students will use Hautapu Sports Club’s facilities for the national NZ Secondary Schools championships in early September.

NZ Lacrosse will run the tournament in Cambridge from Friday September 2 till Sunday September 3, using Memorial Park for their matches.

The tournament provides another example of how Hautapu’s facilities are helping our community and the wider sports community.

The 2022 championships will be the first since 2019, due to disruption caused by the COVID pandemic.

Cambridge teams have a strong record in the tournament with St Peter’s, Cambridge, winning in 2018 and 2019 and Cambridge High School taking titles in 2013, 2014 and 2015.

Before 2013, the championships were dominated by Auckland and Whangarei schools.

The championships are hosted by Waikato Lacrosse, supported by the New Zealand Lacrosse Association and under the banner of School Sport New Zealand.
