Community day provides chance for family fun and rugby rivalry

It’s going to be a day of fun, friendly rivalry and friendship — the Battle of the Bridge community day is coming back!

This year’s event will take place at Memorial Park on Saturday September 16, bringing together members of Cambridge clubs Hautapu and Leamington.

Three games of rugby will entertain supporters from both clubs, while members of the Cambridge and wider community are welcome to join in the fun.

Come along to support, future, past and current local players.

Family-friendly fun

Organisers are providing activities to ensure children have a great time. Inflatable castles will be in place from 11.30am.

Rugby matches for players of all ages

At 11.30am, U-13 sides from Cambridge Junior Rugby Club and Auckland’s Silverdale club will play the day’s opening match, providing a chance to see some emerging young players.

At 1pm, two teams of over-45s will play for the much-treasured Bull Shirt Trophy.

The Bull Shirt Trophy … contested by the over-45s teams.

At 2.45pm, teams of over-30s will play for the Battle of the Bridge Trophy.

The trophy is named in honour of the late Deon Mita, a Hautapu player who died in 2012, and Dave Finlay.

Charity of the day

Hautapu’s chosen charity for the day is The Waterboy.

Visitors to Memorial Park will be invited to donate a gold coin at the main gate.

And afterwards …

… a chance to renew friendships and mingle in Hautapu Sports’ clubrooms, where food and refreshments will be available.
