Founded in 1903 as a rugby club, the Hautapu Sports Club has served Cambridge and the Waikato region for more than a hundred years.
Today, it’s a diverse club, catering for men and women who want to play rugby, netball, touch and hockey, and children and young adults wanting to play sports including rugby, netball, touch and hockey.
Rugby
We are one of the leading clubs in the Waikato and have helped develop many players who have represented their province and country, including All Blacks.
Our grounds are at Memorial Park, Cambridge, beside our clubrooms at 8 Laurent Road, Cambridge.
In 2024, we launched a senior women’s rugby programme.

Netball
Our netball teams play at the St Peter’s School indoor gymnasium, in Cambridge Road, and at the Cambridge Netball Centre in Scott Street, Leamington.
Touch
We run mixed social touch and junior touch modules over summer. These competitions are run on Friday nights.
Hockey
In 2024, we launched our senior men’s and women’s hockey programme.

Junior sports
Since 2021, Hautapu Sports have been a key provider of sports activities for children who previously played for their schools.
Wherever possible, players have been placed in ‘school groups’ teams and, initially, teams made use of uniforms from primary schools. In time, children will wear Hautapu Sports apparel.
As a club, we subscribe to the Sport NZ Balance is Better philosophy and firmly believe that for juniors the important factors in enjoying and sticking to sport is that they have fun and get to play with their mates. We believe in providing sport in a safe and inclusive atmosphere for everyone.
Our junior sports include:
- Hockey (years 3-8)
- Netball (years 0-8)
- Rugby (years 0-6)
