Hautapu’s Simon Parker becomes club’s newest All Black

posted in: News, Rugby

Three Hautapu Sports Club players — including new cap Simon Parker — have been named in the new All Blacks squad for the 2025 Lipovitan-D Rugby Championship.

Luke Jacobson and Ollie Norris have kept their places in the New Zealand squad while Parker has been called up for the first time.

Loose forward Parker (25), now playing for Northland Rugby, spent a number of seasons with Hautapu Sports, helping win Waikato club championships in 2020 and 2023.

He represented NZ Secondary Schools before winning selection to the New Zealand U-20 team in 2019, and joining the Chiefs in 2020.

All Blacks head coach Scott Robertson said: “Simon Parker had an impressive Super Rugby season with the Chiefs and brings a valuable skill set and physicality that we are looking forward to working with.

“He has the ability to play blindside or No. 8 and has gained experience in a number of New Zealand representative teams, so we believe he is ready for the step up.”

Chiefs’ loose forward Jacobson (28) has become a regular for the All Blacks, having earned 24 caps.

Prop Ollie Norris (25) has two full international games to his credit, and was part of Hautapu Sports’ Breweries Shield-winning sides in 2019 and 2020.

In today’s professional rugby environment, it’s becoming more difficult for players to pull on club colours while chasing higher honours, but the progression of Hautapu players to the national side shows what’s possible.
