Hautapu Sports to play seventh 2025 Breweries Shield final in eight years

Hautapu Sports have named their squad for the grand final of the 2025 Breweries Shield.

The Premier A team will travel to play Hamilton Marist at Marist Park in their seventh final appearance in eight seasons.

The match brings together two sides that have met in the past two grand finals, with each club having lifted the shield once.

Hautapu earned their place in the grand final with a 67-20 semi-final win against University at Memorial Park last weekend.

Marist reached the grand final by the barest of margins, beating Fraser Tech 21-20.

The game kicks off at 2.45pm.

Meanwhile, Hautapu Sports U-21 team will contest the final of the Elliot Shield, playing Hamilton Old Boys at Fred Jones Park, at 1pm.

This gives Hautapu supporters the chance to attend both games, at least for some of the action.

Hautapu look to add to impressive shield history

Hautapu have an excellent record in the elite Waikato competition, especially since the introduction of play-off games in 1983.

The club has achieved seven shield wins since 1983 when play-off games were introduced.

In the past 25 years, Hautapu has built an admirable record in the competition with:

• Seven wins.
• Three sets of back-to-back wins.
• Twenty appearances in the semi-finals.
• Twelve grand finals, including this year.
