ROUND-UP: Flying start for Hautapu Sports' senior hockey teams

Hautapu Sports’ senior women’s and men’s hockey sides are underway for the 2025 Waikato season.

Both of the club’s women’s teams won their opening round games in the Waikato Reserves 3 competition.

In the Waikato Men’s Reserves 3 competition, Hautapu Sports Red won 5-1 against Fraser Tech Development.

The only Hautapu side yet to win are the Hautapu White team who were shaded 3-1 by Te Awamutu in the Reserves 4 division.

The women’s teams had narrow wins, with the Evans & Co. Hautapu Women’s overcoming Fraser Tech’s Cruisey Blues side 3-2, while the Waipa Civil Hautapu Women’s team beat Swamfrog Old Girls 1-0.

Next weekend, the two Hautapu women’s teams are drawn to play each other.

Last year, Hautapu fielded senior hockey teams for the first time, with one men’s team and one women’s side. After a successful maiden season, the club now has four squads.

The women’s teams have received support from two sponsors, with Evans and Co. and Waipa Civil getting behind a team each.
