Three players from Hautapu Sports Club are part of the 12-player squad chosen to represent the Chiefs at the Elevate 7s tournament in Te Puke.
They are Rui Farrant, Senita Lauaki and Waisake Salabiau.
The tournament runs on Friday November 1 and Saturday November 2, 2024, at the Te Puke Sports and Recreation club.
The Chiefs play their first game against the All Blacks 7s at 1.06pm on Friday, followed by a match against the Hurricanes 7s at 2.42pm.
Saturday’s fixtures will depend on day one results.
The event gives New Zealand Sevens teams additional game time ahead of the upcoming HSBC World Series.
“It will also provide an opportunity for many up-and-coming players to show their skills in the shortened format,” the Chiefs say.
The Chiefs Sevens team features many University of Waikato Chiefs U-18 and U-20s players who have the potential to excel in the future with Sevens or the Gallagher Chiefs.
The team will be coached by former Brazil Women’s Rugby Sevens coach and Waikato Rugby’s Women’s Rugby Development Manager, Ruben Samuels.
