Community benefits from successful free healthcare event at clubrooms

More than 130 members of the Cambridge community benefitted from the free health check event held at Hautapu Sports’ clubrooms.

The four-hour event, on Friday August 22, 2024, provided visitors with the chance to get free checks with a range of healthcare providers.

While most left assured they were in good health, some visitors were alerted to potential issues.

Of those checked by Melanoma NZ, more than 20 were urged to visit their doctor for an appointment.

The checks had found suspicious moles, four melanoma and seven Basel cell carcinoma (the most common form of skin cancer).

The event was organised by FMG in partnership with Melanoma NZ, and included:

  • Melanoma NZ provided free spot checks alongside Southern Cross Health Insurance talking to their memberships and benefits.
  • Triton Hearing supplied free hearing checks, using their mobile hearing clinic.
  • Specsavers provided pre-eye exam checks.
  • Southern Cross Healthcare registered nurses performed express health, blood pressure and cholesterol checks.

FMG fired up the barbecue to welcome all the visitors.
