Hautapu Sports players are among those selected to take part in the University of Waikato Chiefs U-18s development camp in July.
Richard Magele, Raharuhi Palmer and Kaleb Tapara have been selected to attend the camp at St Pauls Collegiate, Hamilton, from July 10-12, 2024.
The 61-player camp is a key part of the Chiefs pathways programme which identifies players within the clubs’ region who show the potential to become future Gallagher Chiefs.
Previous attendees include current All Blacks Emoni Narawa, Tupou Vaa’i, Hautapu’s Luke Jacobson, Samipeni Finau, and Cortez Ratima.
Chiefs Rugby Club head of pathways Kent Currie said: “We have been impressed by the commitment that each of these players have shown within their respective schools and clubs.
“They are an exciting group of talent, and we look forward to having them connect and learn from some of our experienced alumni, current Gallagher Chiefs and coaches throughout the camp.
“There will be a big focus on skill development and the Chiefs Rugby Club culture, with them heading home with a clear picture of our pathway.”
The camp will allow players to better understand what it takes to make it professionally, with former Chiefs and All Blacks Aaron Cruden and Liam Messam (Chiefs athlete development coach) as influential facilitators.
The camp will also act as a trial for players to earn selection for the New Zealand Schools team and the University of Waikato Chiefs U-18 team to face Samoa this year.
