ROUND-UP: Marist take the win despite second half rally from Premier A side

posted in: News, Rugby

Hautapu Sports have been beaten 33-17 by Hamilton Marist in the Premiership phase of the Waikato Premier A rugby competition.

Marist took a 20-3 first-half lead, making it difficult for Hautapu to stage a comeback.

Despite a second-half rally, in which Hautapu outscored the Hamilton side, Marist took the win and a seven-point lead on the Premiership table.

The result adds spice to next weekend’s fixture when Hautapu Sports host second-placed Hamilton Old boys at Memorial Park.

In the Premier B match, a second half fightback from Hautapu got the Development squad up for a 29-29 draw against Hamilton Marist.

At Memorial Park, Hautapu Sports’ Colts beat Suburbs 33-12 to secure top spot in the round-robin phase of the Waikato Colts competition.

The win gives them first seeding as the competition moves into its end-of-season finals stage.
