Calf rearing fundraiser to help upgrade Hautapu Sports’ netball courts

Hautapu Sports have launched a calf stock scheme to raise funds to help upgrade the club’s netball courts.

The club seeks donors of 100kg calves for rearing, with monies raised from their sale going towards the upgrade project.

Currently, the court is the club’s only training surface for almost 48 junior teams and six senior teams, who use it to prepare for local Cambridge and Hamilton competitions.

While players also use the Cambridge Netball Centre courts in Leamington, the club court is used heavily on a daily basis.

The asphalt court was installed more than 30 years ago and has deteriorated, limiting its use.

While it has served the club well, it is no longer fit for purpose. Cracks are beginning to appear, and the surface is slippery when wet.

A new, rubberised surface will reduce the risk of injury and provide more opportunities to encourage sport and the well-being of our community’s young people.

The club also anticipates the resurfacing could attract other sporting codes and increase usage, especially during summer — an example is pickleball.
