History made! Hautapu Sports senior hockey teams make their debuts

Newly-formed senior women’s and men’s hockey teams have played their first matches for Hautapu Sports in an historic day for the club.

Both teams played in their respective Reserve 3 competitions at the Gallagher Hockey Centre, Hamilton, wearing the club colours for the first time.

The women’s team went closest to an opening day win, losing 6-5 to Suburbs Strikers.

The men lost 6-2 to Penny’s Bookstore Old Boys.

The men’s team will compete in the 2024 Men’s Reserve 3 competition, an eight-team competition in which the other teams are:

  • Concept Joinery Old Boys
  • Fraser Tech Men’s Development
  • Penny’s Bookstore Old Boys
  • Suburbs Junior Development
  • Suburbs Reserve 3
  • TA Absolute Storage
  • Varsity A1 Storage

The Hautapu women’s team will compete in the Women’s Senior Reserve 3 competition, a six-team competition. Their competitors are:

  • Culswick Wanderers Reserve 2
  • FTHC Cruisey Blues
  • Suburbs Strikers
  • Swampfrog Old Girls
  • Varsity Chicks

Our coaches

Danelda Van Der Merwe will coach the women’s team, while the men’s team will be managed by Mike Fredrickson and Mark (Woody) Woods.
