Hautapu Sports have finished their season as runners-up in the Waikato Colts competition after losing the grand final to Hamiton Marist.

Marist took the Elliot Shield with a strong second-half performance after Hautapu had led in the first half at Marist Park.

Five minutes later, Flynn Pierce put Hautapu 12-7 ahead with a try.

Shortly before half-time, Marist took a 15-12 lead with an unconverted try, and a penalty.

In the second spell, the home side built their lead two converted tries and a penalty, to finish the final with a 32-12 margin.

Despite the grand final loss, the Colts enjoyed a successful season, winning 14 of their 17 matches, and scoring more than 500 points.
