Your invitation to take up the whistle! Club to host entry-level referees’ course

posted in: Juniors, News, Rugby

Without referees, there’s no rugby … so here’s the ideal opportunity to find out whether you’d enjoy becoming a referee, especially for junior rugby.

Hautapu Sports are hosting an Associate Referees’ Course on Tuesday May 23, for new referees and anyone aiming to referee junior rugby in 2023.

The course, which runs from 6pm-7pm, is the perfect place to start for aspiring referees who want to head into the junior rugby season with confidence.

It would suit:

  • Those wanting to referee in Grades 8-13, in line with NZDSLV and Small Black laws (though rippa coaches are welcome to attend).
  • Senior players who are injured but want to stay involved in the game.
  • Parents/carers who want to enable their child’s junior coach to focus on coaching, instead of refereeing as well.
  • Coaches of 12th and 13th grade teams who want to consider moving into refereeing in the future.

The course will be run by Waikato Rugby and for more information, please email Match Officials Game Developer Andrew Bowe at: andrewb@mooloo.co.nz.
