Hautapu finish runners-up at Mt Maunganui’s MW7 premier rugby sevens

Hautapu have been narrowly beaten in the final of the MW7 premier sevens tournament in Mount Maunganui, losing 24-21 to Greerton Marist Gurnards.

The Gurnards turned the tables in the final, having lost in extra time 22-17 to Hautapu in the day’s opening pool game.

In the pool opener, Hautapu needed a try in extra time after they were level 17-17 with Greerton Marist Gurnards when the full-time whistle blew.

In their second match, Hautapu came from 0-7 behind to run in two tries to take a 14-7 lead.

With full-time almost up, Hautapu added a penalty to take a 17-7 win against the Aucklanders.

In the third match, Hautapu beat Bula Bay 41-0.

Hautapu reached the final with a runaway 31-0 win against Te Puna in the semi-final.
