Hautapu Sports Club has lost a great supporter with the death of legendary horse breeder Sir Patrick Hogan, aged 83.

Sir Patrick, who died on January 6, was an ardent supporter of the club and a keen follower of rugby.

Club president Dave Simes said Sir Patrick would be missed by the wider Cambridge community, having supported a wide range of activities for many years.

“Though he was best known for his amazing achievements in the thoroughbred industry, Sir Patrick was an enthusiastic supporter of sport and we were always grateful when he paid us a visit,” Simes said.

Hautapu Sports Club extends its condolences to Lady Justine, who was Sir Patrick’s wife for 60 years, and the Hogan family.

Sir Patrick established Cambridge Stud in 1977 with the sire Sir Tristram who sired more than 40 Group 1 winners.

He was knighted for services to thoroughbred racing in 2000, after being named horse breeder of the year five times.
