Waikato’s U-19 Juniors will host Bay of Plenty in a key game this weekend, with five Hautapu Sports players in their squad.
Senita Lauaki, Tyler McNutt, Andrew Smith, Jonty Short and Jaedan Williams–Wilson are part of the RoomMate Cabins Waikato Junior side who are second in the standings for the Dave Rennie Trophy after two rounds.
Hautapu’s Tomas Galdames is also the team’s physio.
Waikato will host competition leaders BoP at FMG Stadium, Hamilton, on Saturday August 27 (2.30pm).
The Waikato juniors had strong pre-season showings against Hawkes Bay and Wellington, winning both comfortably by 41–17 and 38–28, respectively.
Round 1 of the competition saw Waikato travel to the Taranaki which is always a grudge match between the two provinces, no matter the grade.
Waikato Juniors came away with a convincing 69–3 win.
In their latest game, on August 20, the side travelled to Pukekohe to face a talented Counties Manukau Juniors team.
After a hard-fought game, the side fell short 13-12.
