Members of Hautapu Sports Club extend their sympathy to the family and friends of those whose lives were lost in the recent fishing boat tragedy off North Cape.

Five men from Cambridge and Te Awamutu died after a rogue wave struck the boat Enchanter, while five others were rescued by Maritime NZ’s search and rescue team.

“Our hearts go out to the families and friends of everyone involved,” Hautapu Sports Club president Dave Simes said.

“We’re aware that some of the group aboard the Enchanter were keen sports people and we feel a bond with them.

“On behalf of our club and its members, we pass on our condolences to their loved ones.”
