Premiers retain George Simpkin Shield in day of big wins

Hautapu Sports have retained the George Simpkin Shield with a comprehensive win by the Premier A side against challengers United Sports Matamata.

Hautapu won the match 83-05 at Memorial Park to cap a day of big wins for the club.

The Power Farming-sponsored shield is named after George Simpkin, a former coach of the Waikato NPC team and innovative sevens coach.

In the early game, Hautapu's development team beat Matamata 61-12 in Waikato Rugby's Premier B competition, and the U-21 Colts overcame Suburbs 48-0.

In the Women's Premier competition, the combined Hautapu Sports/Melville side ran out 62-15 winners against Suburbs at Flagstaff Park.
