ROUND-UP: Hautapu Sports retain George Simpkin Shield till next year

Hautapu Sports have successfully defended the last challenge of the season for the George Simpkin Shield, after being Morrinsville Sports 41-14 at Memorial Park.

The Power Farming-sponsored shield is contested by rural clubs in Waikato Rugby’s Premier A competition, and Hautapu won’t need to face their next challenge till the 2026 season.

The Development squad registered a 76-14 win in the Premier B match against Morrinsville.

Callum Bennett ran up 26 points for the Premier B side, scoring two tries and kicking eight conversions.

The U-21 team had a bye and return to competition next weekend with a game at Hamilton Old Boys.

The Premier A and B teams take a break till Saturday July 12 when they will face Hamilton Old Boys at Fred Jones Park.
