Hautapu Sports have partnered with the world’s leading online platform for rugby coach education to help develop the club’s rugby leadership group.

The Rugby Site, which was launched in 2010 by Brendon Ratcliffe in association with Sir Wayne Smith, Sir Graham Henry, Richie McCaw and Dan Carter, provides resources for senior-level coaches around the world.

Phil Connolly, The Rugby Site’s chief executive, and coach contributor Sean Tagg facilitated a leadership workshop for members of Hautapu’s senior rugby coaching staff.

The Rugby Site provides coach development resources to more than 20,000 coaches, including national team coaches, in countries across the world.

Connolly is a former player and coach, whose passion for rugby has taken him from New Zealand to Australia, South Africa and Zimbabwe.

When he returned from the United Kingdom, he took up coaching in Auckland and worked on contract for New Zealand Rugby, building a cloud-based system to track player data from club level to international.

Connolly has been chief executive of The Rugby Site since 2015.

Tagg has been a high-performance sports leader in a number of codes, including rugby, league and football.

He’s had spells with the Sydney Roosters and London Broncos (league), Fulham FC and Adelaide United (football) and London Irish (rugby).

He’s also led the physical education and wellness programme for New Zealand Police.
